OTHER HELPFUL INFORMATION
Parking on Campus
Parking on the campus of Furman University is free. Each School participant will receive a temporary parking permit at registration. This permit is to be used only during the dates of the School, July 11-16, 2009. Parking permits must be displayed on the dashboard of each vehicle. Handicapped parking spaces are conveniently located throughout the campus.
Dress
Casual dress is recommended for the School. Participants are urged to bring comfortable shoes. Because temperatures may vary in classrooms and because the Upstate can be cool in the evenings (even in July), participants are encouraged to bring a sweater or light jacket.
Recreation
Furman University ’s recreational facilities include a large college library; student center; bookstore; television and games area; a
state-of-the-art indoor and outdoor tennis facility; athletic fields; a golf course; a beautiful lake; and many walking and jogging
paths.
The Herman W. Lay Physical Activities Center (PAC) includes a gymnasium for basketball, volleyball and free recreation; a 25-yard salt-water pool; and a fitness center. The center will be open from noon to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, 5:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and opens at 5:30 a.m. on Friday. Memberships to the air-conditioned facility are available for $8 per day or $20 for the week. Upon completion of a "Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire" and informed consent form (available at the PAC) and payment of applicable fees, participants will receive a PAC ID. This ID must be displayed at all times when using the activities center.
