Ritalin is a stimulant that is used to treat Attention-Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in children. It stimulates the central nervous system with effects similar to amphetamines or cocaine. There is very stringent control on Ritalin's manufacture, distribution and prescription due to the fact that it is widely abused. Research is currently being done to study the long-term effects of Ritalin on those individuals who take it for a long period of time.
